Marseille

A few years ago, I briefly worked as an assistant photographer in California. So I can say I have been literally paid to know that taking postcard-style pictures requires a heavy investment both in time and equipment. I am usually content taking a few live portraits, the odd detail here and there and all kind of stuff that doesn’t require getting up before the sun does and waiting in the freezing pre-dawn morning while making twenty thousand light measurements and setting up thousands bucks worth of lenses and filters. I leave this to paid professionals and stay in my cozy bed instead.

But, just before leaving, I got a brand new toy (the previous one, however compact and shriekingly kawaii sucked really too much, even for casual use) and was eager to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised, both by its easy controls and the resulting quality…

It doesn’t hurt either that Marseille, the Mediterranean coast in general, have one of the most photogenic lighting. It is no coincidence if the area was the chosen home of countless renowned artists (Matisse, Picasso etc).
