"In proper conditions", because the stores are then empty - of people... OK: *and* of decent goods, I admit. But here comes the second part of the bargain: the remaining articles are given away, AND most of them either don't fit you, or come in ugly colors. So you end up buying... nothing! Hence the saving. PS: Oh, and I'm in love with sateen-lined tuxes ever since I saw George Clooney wearing one so handsomely...
